Any suggestions?
Turns out graduation is an expensive event.
For those of you still curious, I am graduating
in about 6 weeks. Seems like just recently I
was telling all of my friends in Dallas that
I was packing up and heading to Indiana. Now,
nearly 2 years later, and countless research
hours later, I am about to walk up on that stage
again...this time with big, gay hood. My hood
is going to be citron...seriously, who wants a
citron hood? So today we fought the crowds of
undergrads just trying to get our graduation
packets, tickets, and robes. I have decided that
this graduation warrants a class ring, so I am
shopping for that too. Seems like I can get a
freaking huge one, or one that almost looks too
small. It is the first time I have ever heard this
one: (while looking at rings the salesperson chimes
in without scarcasm) "A class ring is a diploma for your finger!"
I just want something sliver, sharp and
clean lines, and sturdy (as I tend to pound on
things and whack my rings out of shape). Is that
too much to ask?

Maybe I should skip the ring and go with something
a little more 'timely':

I like the ring on the right a lot. I think it looks very nice.

I do too, but it is huge. The top is
the size of a dime or a penny. And with
my fingers, it makes me look like a rap
star, or used-car salesman.

I am going to see if they have a slightly
smaller version, but I am not expecting much.
Unfortunately, they are somewhat mass produced.

and sooooooo jealous.

About the ring, surely they have more of a selection than two! Of the two here I like the same one you guys did, but not if it's that big. Sheesh!
And there use to be other companies who offered class rings besides the one that came on campus. Another place might have more of a selection?
What color is citrus? Yellow? Lime green? Are you going to buy your hood/gown?
This is exciting, Brad. That cheer you hear is me -- and lots of other folks -- down here in TX.

So many questions...ahh.
1) There are 3 vendors..I just showed the two rings I liked best
2)Citron (I thought it was orange, this isn't too bad)
3)I can't actually buy the hood and gown...rental only...expensive at that
4)Cheering is good...btw, I have only one ticket extra...if you find yourself here.

Well rats!
I thought, at the MA level, you got to KEEP your gowns if you wanted to. You pay enough to wear them, y'know? Citron isn't so bad, sort of a cheery nerdy color, don't you think? Wear it proudly!
God, I'd love to see you walk, Brad. Really, really.

That's annoying. We rent the gowns for free, and put a deposit down on the hood. If we want to keep the hood, we can, for the amount of the deposit. I don't think we can buy the gowns, though. Ours are Tartan with the engineering orange.

I need to order announcements today. And maybe check out the rings -- the stones are all purple, which is good.

Even worse, after another look, I think
it may be nickle. That being said, the
size was a little too big as well, and
I think getting a small size might make
it feel a little smaller on my hand.

Watches are useful and that one is particularly gorgeous but it definitely won't outlive a well-made ring.

If you can't find an outside vendor that makes different sizes of Purdue rings, maybe you can go to a jeweler and make your own "class ring"? Or you could just use your shrink ray on it. :)

I wish I could get a Ti class ring, but there is alot that goes into it. Namely, the engraving of licensed logos. So unless one of the big companies does the ring, it is not likely to have to Purdue Griffon on it. I really like these rings, I just have to decide what suits me. I might get a watch too, but later, as an alumni.

The watch...
